Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about business fiber availability, installation, and how FiberCheck works.

Fiber Availability

Our system checks against known connectivity databases and provider coverage data. Results indicate likely availability — not guaranteed availability. Final confirmation always depends on the provider and building-level verification. We use confidence levels (high, medium, needs review) to communicate this clearly.

On-net means fiber infrastructure appears to already be present in or directly connected to your building. This typically means faster installation (2-4 weeks), more provider options, and potentially lower costs since no new construction is needed.

Near-net means fiber infrastructure appears to be nearby — often within a short distance of your building. A near-net build may be possible, where the provider extends fiber to your building. This can involve additional time (60-120 days) and potentially construction costs, depending on the provider and distance.

Yes. Fiber may reach the building's main distribution point (MDF/IDF) but not extend to every floor or suite. Final connectivity depends on internal building wiring, riser access, landlord permissions, and provider agreements with the building owner or management company.

If fiber is not confirmed, we can help explore alternatives. These may include business broadband (cable or DSL), fixed wireless, 4G/5G solutions, or near-net build options where a provider extends fiber to your building. Many addresses have more options than initially expected.

Installation & Timeline

On-net installations — where fiber already reaches your building — can often be completed in 2-4 weeks. Near-net builds or new construction may take 60-120 days depending on the provider, permitting requirements, and distance. We help set realistic expectations based on your specific situation.

Installation typically involves a site survey, inside wiring to your suite, equipment installation (router/ONT), and circuit testing. For on-net buildings, this is usually straightforward. For near-net builds, additional steps like permitting, trenching, or aerial construction may be required.

Usually yes — someone with building access needs to be available during installation. The provider will need access to the MDF/IDF room, riser pathways, and your suite. Installation typically takes 2-4 hours for on-net locations.

Service Types

Dedicated internet (DIA) provides a guaranteed, symmetric bandwidth connection with an SLA — meaning you get the full speed you pay for, with contractual uptime guarantees. Business broadband is shared bandwidth, typically asymmetric (faster download than upload), more affordable, but without the same level of guarantees.

Choose dedicated internet when your business depends on reliable, consistent connectivity — especially for cloud applications, VoIP, video conferencing, or compliance requirements. If downtime costs your business money, DIA's SLA guarantees are worth the premium.

SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) is a technology that intelligently manages traffic across multiple internet connections. It's particularly useful for businesses with multiple locations, those using multiple circuits for redundancy, or organizations that need to prioritize certain types of traffic.

Absolutely. We regularly help businesses with redundant connectivity (backup circuits), failover configurations, SD-WAN implementations, and multi-location assessments. Whether you need a simple backup line or a complex multi-site network, we can help evaluate your options.

About FiberCheck

Yes. Checking your address and viewing your connectivity assessment is completely free. There's no obligation, no commitment, and no credit card required. If you want to proceed with a quote or expert consultation, that's also free.

FiberCheck connects businesses with connectivity providers. When a provider is selected and a circuit is installed, we may receive a referral fee from the provider. This doesn't affect your pricing — providers offer the same rates whether you come through us or contact them directly.

No. Your information is used only to assess connectivity at your address and, if you request it, to facilitate quotes from relevant providers. We do not sell your data or share it with unrelated third parties.

FiberCheck covers business addresses across the United States. Our connectivity data is most comprehensive in major metropolitan areas, but we can check addresses nationwide and help identify options even in less densely served areas.
